Buttons Barn offers luxurious accommodation for up to four people in a beautiful and very secluded rural location yet within easy reach of central London and the South coast. The Barn is available for rent on a short break or weekly basis.
This sympathetically converted 16th century barn nestles in the tiny hamlet of ‘Buttons’ in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Quiet and unspoilt, the detached barn is set within quarter of an acre of private garden with a babbling stream running around the western boundary.
The renovation was completed in September 2007 and the barn retains its huge original oak beams and vaulted ceilings complemented with oak floors, doors and thickly glazed oak windows. The property is furnished with 16th and 17th century English oak furniture and romantic carved oak beds but is equipped with high quality modern appliances and comforts. The barn extremely relaxed, comfortable and unfussy - with feather cushion sofas and deep pile rugs.
There are two double bedrooms – one with king sized bed and an ensuite bathroom with a full width walk in shower with the latest aqualisa fittings. The smaller bedroom has a supremely comfortable 17th century double bed and adjoins a corridor with a large bathroom with a Victorian roll top bath, floor standing taps with shower head. The rooms are well furnished and cosy with lots of exposed beams. Crisp white linen and soft towels are provided. Both rooms have hairdryers and both bathrooms contain a welcome pack of hand made aromatherapy soaps, shampoo, bath and shower products.
The kitchen and living room have a high vaulted ceiling with original roof timbers. The living room has two feather-filled settees, a small lcd flat screen TV with integral freeview, a CD and MP3 player (with a few CDs) and DAB radio with alarm. The telephone is provided on a trust basis and guests are asked to leave payment next to the phone on departure and there is free wi-fi broadband internet access.
The dining area has a Charles II refectory table and chairs. The kitchen has an integral fridge and dishwasher, double oven, ceramic touch hob, granite worktops and is well equipped with high quality cutlery, crockery, pans and gadgets. A stable door opens from the dining room to a small oak balcony overlooking the stream with table and chairs and stairs leading down to the garden. Most of the window sills provide deep ‘window seats’ and you can tuck in to them and watch the birds or spot the trout in the stream below.
On the upper landing there is a bible box containing some board games, cards and brochures on local attractions. There are local walking maps, compass etc. There are lots of books and magazines.
The downstairs entrance hall has an oak stable door and phone. The coffer contains spare linen and towels if needed and there is a Victorian toilet and a utility/boot room with washing machine, tumble drier, freezer, and luggage rack as well as ironing facilities and coat rack.
On the gravel drive there is a boot scrape, outside tap and a limestone trough. The gardens have young hedge and rose filled borders, wide lawns and gravelled off-road parking for up to three cars.
The barn has full central heating and is always warm and comfortable with plenty of hot water. The thick walls and deeply insulated roof make it extremely cosy in cold weather yet cool and airy in the summer.
